South Coast Hideaway at Jervis Bay
Jervis
Bay and coastline of little townships is Shoalhaven's favourite
water wonderland. Jervis Bay is famous for the whitest sand in the
world, and it's crystal clear waters. Discover the tranquil bush
settings within the National Parks. Huskisson,
gateway to Jervis Bay is just two and a half hours from Sydney and
Canberra..
The centre of
the Jervis Bay tourist haven is Huskisson, which has always been a
town with a strong association with the sea. In 1861 George Dent
started building boats around the mouth of Currambene Creek and
ship building soon became the town's major industry. The protected
waters of the basin allows for swimming, family picnics,
water-skiing, canoeing and more.
Booderee
National Park and Botanic Gardens is jointly managed by the
Wreck Bay Aborigional Community Council and the Commonwealth
Goverment. Visitors can enjoy some spectacular sights and even see
whales, dolphins, Kangaroos and a huge variety of bird life all in
their natural playground.
Established walking tracks, picnic grounds and camp sites make it
easy for families and campers to appreciate the many wonderful
aspects of Booderee National Park. With a boundary of high rugged
cliffs to the gentle and picturesque beaches meeting up with the
pristine waters of the South Pacific and Jervis Bay Marine Park,
there is always plenty to see and do.
The nominal daily entry fee is obviously well spent in caring for
wildlife and maintaining this national treasure. Rangers are on
the lookout to make sure everything is in order - they are able to
answer most questions you might have to help you enjoy your
stay.
The visitor centre supplies a history of the park and free maps
showing the many walking trails ranging from 5 minutes to 2 and a
half hours - there is something to suit all ages and levels of
fitness. The Botanic Garden is a highlights of rainforest, native
flowers and plants surrounding wonderful picnic grounds by the
lake. The pathways through the garden are without steps and are
